Gickedy Gackedy Goodness December 17 2012

Gak = Ooky Gooky Squooshiness Nobody can resist...

Gak. I love the Gak. My kids love the Gak. Nobody can keep their hands of the Gak! It is cold and squishy, slippy, but not sticky, it stretches, it breaks, it melts, it forms.

We took the boys out to eat for a rainy afternoon pizza with friends. We kept all the kids busy with the Gak, not to mention all the kids at neighboring tables. I gave the recipe away to two other families. It takes 10 minutes, you can play with it right away, and it stays good in a ziplock bag for a long time. No need to refrigerate.

(Disclosure: keep away from hair, clothing, carpet etc. It can have its way when it settles in)It has passed many hours on long flights, entertained my children (and those at neighboring tables) while dining out with friends, and given me at least an extra hour preparing a holiday meal.

It's gicky gucky, squishy, weird fun, and its easy to make! No cooking, just gicky mixing! (take your rings off!)

Materials

  • 2 cups Elmer’s Glue® or White School Glue

  • Borax (a powdered soap found in the grocery store)

  • Large mixing bowl

  • Plastic Cup

  • Spoon

  • Measuring cup

  • Food coloring

  • Very Hot Water

  • Large Ziplock Bag for Storage

1. Empty 16oz of glue into a large bowl.

2. In a large measuring cup, measure 1 1/2 cups of very hot water and add food coloring.

3. Add the colored water to the glue and stir until it is smooth and well combined.

4. In a seperate cup, measure 1/2 cup very hot water. Dissolve 2 TBSP Borax into the water.

5. Add Borax Mixture to the Glue Mixture and stir. It will immediately start to clump.

Continue mixing and knead with hands until  incorporated. It is ok if there is liquid left at the bottom of the bowl. Just remove and allow gak to set for a few minutes.

6. PLAY GAK!
